Midweek Message – May 1, 2013

Greetings,

Happy May Day! What a great time of year, flowers are blooming, birds are singing, the weather is warmer, the days longer and the baseball season is in full swing!

You may not be a baseball fan but there are many spiritual lessons that can be learned from a game that has been called everything from America’s Favorite Pastime to a slow and boring sport.

Baseball is a lot slower than some other sports but that is one of its beauties. Our world is moving faster and faster and the devices that have been created (i.e., smartphones, tablets, computers, etc.) just make our world even more stressful.

People love baseball because it is a reminder of the days when things were simpler, slower and going to a baseball game was a way of bonding. The fact that it is slower makes it a great spectator sport live because you can follow what is going on without replays or the pause button.

Baseball helps us to remember that sometimes when we slow down we can appreciate the things that we often miss in our crazy and hectic lives. And like in baseball, when we stop and pay attention to all the small details we can find beauty and wonder in the most mundane places.
