MIDWEEK MESSAGE – July 17, 2024
I went to a Unity church Sunday, and the talk was on “Fearless and Free.” It was great, and it discussed how our fears keep us from true freedom. After the talk, the music director chose one of my favorite songs to play, “If I Was Brave.”
The song asks the question, “What would we do if we were brave? If we were not afraid to fail and had the faith to know that all things are possible with the help of our Higher Power?
The song is about stepping out to explore the possibilities of being brave and not living in fear or worrying about what others would think of us. It takes courage because the changes of this discussion are not like buying a new sofa, moving to a new home, even if in a new place, or beginning or ending a relationship or a career.
The changes that require real courage are changes in our thinking, changes in our connection to God and others, and giving up things we are attached to that keep us prisoners of our own lives.
If you have been putting off pursuing your dream, take a leap of faith. Begin walking toward your dream and asking yourself what small step you can take to let the Universe know, “I am willing and ready to trust that God can do all things through me” with enough faith and trust.
The next time you are faced with a frightening, difficult decision because it requires you to step out on a ledge to take the first step, ask yourself, “What would I do if I were brave? What motivates my choices – fear or love/faith?”
Through the many leaps I have taken, I have learned that whether I land safely or fall is always a positive growth experience. Leaps of faith and acts of personal bravery make me spend more time with God in prayer, meditation, and constant conversation so that I have all the courage I need to do all those things.
Quote of the Week
“I were brave, I’d walk the razor’s edge (if I were brave)
Where fools and dreamers dare to tread
I’d never lose faith (never lose faith) even when losing my way
What step would I take today if I were brave?”
“If I Were Brave”, Jan Stanfield
