Midweek Message – April 10, 2013
Greetings!
How can we be happy no matter what our lives look like? So often we think that if we had more money, a different space, a better job, a nicer car or a wonderful mate that we would be happy. The truth is that true happiness is not dependent on the circumstances of our lives but what we do with what life brings us.
What helps us to be happy is the way we feel about the world and ourselves. If we believe that we are victims in life, then we will be fearful, worried and distrusting. If however, we believe that happiness is based on how we respond to life, we will find joy and peace (and happiness) no matter what happens.
The choice is up to us. We must first choose to be happy. Two important tools are staying in gratitude and practicing forgiveness. A third and just as important one is living in the present moment. I had a spiritual teacher years ago, and whenever I would get fearful of the future she would ask me, “How is your now?”
Well it turned out that my now was always ok. However, staying in the moment takes practice. Next time you find something causing you unhappiness, breathe deeply. Be conscious of that breath, become conscious of the Spirit that is present within you as well as all around you and now that right now, in this moment all is well.
So right now, decide to be happy. It is a decision and one that brings with it a multitude of benefits. Happy Day! Happy Life! Happy Being!
Quote of the Week
“Being happy doesn’t mean that everything is perfect. It means you’ve decided to look beyond the imperfections.”
