MIDWEEK MESSAGE – November 9, 2022

Did you ever make some big life plans and, when stuff happens, get discouraged that your goals were not realized?

Maybe the issue is not about failure but not seeing the little victories that make life worthwhile.

I saw a great cartoon with a figure on a bike happily heading to the finish line with a checked flag, and it said, “Your ‘Plans’.”

Underneath it was another figure on a bike, but the path was filled with many ups and downs, including one with water. After each challenge was a little flag, and that cartoon’s heading said, “The Universe’s Plans for You.”

I loved it because that is how life is, with ups and downs, hills and valleys, and even some “water holes” we can wind up in. The thing is that after each of the challenges, there was a flag denoting a victory.

We map our lives, days, careers, and relationships to the best of our abilities. We try to account for any possible surprise that may come along, but it seems not to matter how much we may plan, something comes along we do not expect – it can be something small like not getting a job we want, or it can be something big, like losing someone we love

Think how much joy we would have in our lives if we celebrated all the little victories rather than all the “failures or disappointments” in life. What if we saw the progress we make as something to celebrate? What if we use minor victories to motivate us – to keep us going despite the ups and downs of life?

What if instead of looking at how far we have to go to achieve our goals, we look at all the big and small ones we have achieved thus far? Remember, before a child walks, he crawls and falls frequently. It is said that Thomas Edison failed 100 times before his light bulb was successful.

This week take time to see the little victories in your days, week, and life. When you see them, celebrate them, and then move toward the next challenge, the next success that the Universe has in store for you.
