MIDWEEK MESSAGE – November 16 2022

Are you currently challenged in life? Has fear and doubt set in? The answer to all your challenges may be Sacred Service.

Sacred Service to others is one of the best ways to make our day and our life not only more meaningful but more joyful as well. It is also one of the quickest paths along our spiritual journey. Sacred Service is so beneficial to us spiritually because it helps us get out of ourselves and is a means for pushing the energy of love to others.

I am not talking about helping someone or, for that matter, fixing someone but giving sacred Service, which is quite different. What is the difference?

Helping is not based on a relationship between equals but on inequality. When we help someone, we are coming from seeing ourselves as having more strength than the one we are helping.

When we serve, we are aware of our strength, but we do not serve with that strength, but from the God, within us that sees the other as a whole child of God. How do we do that? We draw from our experiences. Our wholeness serves the wholeness in others and the wholeness in life. The wholeness in each of us is the same as in every other person; therefore, Service is a relationship between equals.

Helping incurs debt. When we help someone, they owe us one. But serving is mutual. There is no debt. Both the person we are serving and ourselves are served. When we help, we have a feeling of satisfaction, yet when we serve, we feel grateful. These are two very different and distinct things.

Also, serving is not fixing. When we try to fix someone, we are saying they are broken, which is a form of judgment. When we serve, we only see the other person as a whole, and serving brings forth that wholeness.

Although serving may seem to feed both the one serving and the one served the same, in fact, it most likely is more beneficial to the one who serves. Why? Because helping and fixing drain us while serving renews and sustains us.

Quote of the Week

“I slept and dreamt that life was joy.
I awoke and saw that life was Service.
I acted and behold, Service was joy.

Rabindranath Tagore
