MIDWEEK MESSAGE – September 11, 2024
Last month, during my visit to Ohio, I had the privilege of exploring Doctor Bob’s house, one of the Co-founders of Alcoholics Anonymous. I discovered a treasure among the books he read—a little red book titled The Greatest Thing in the World by Henry Drummond. This book, which I had yet to read, stood out among the works of New Thought writers such as Emmett Fox and James Allen.
The author’s instructions suggest reading the book every month for three months, but Doctor Bob recommended a more intensive approach-reading it daily for a month. Despite its brevity, the book’s practical advice on love spread across its 26 pages, has been a source of daily empowerment for me over the last two weeks.
The book delves into 1 Corinthians 13, a profound exploration of love as the greatest force, even surpassing faith. Drummond’s insightful analysis divides the verses into three parts: Love contrasted, Love analyzed, and Love defended. As someone who has officiated many wedding ceremonies, I was familiar with this Bible passage. However, the unique perspective offered by Drummond’s analysis has opened my eyes to its potential impact on my life and emotional well-being in a way I had never fully grasped.
It is an easy read. The book can be purchased on Amazon for $4.99 and is available on Kindle and Audiobooks. It is worth every bit of it. I will have a Zoom discussion because we all can use this in our lives. It is not necessary to have the book, but it is a great book to have in our spiritual libraries.
I will host a Zoom discussion on the book on Thursday, October 10th, at 6:00 p.m. ET (you do not need the book).
I hope you will join me in embracing these ideas, which give us a new way to ses how we are in the world and how one word—love—can affect our life journey.
Quote of the Week
“…the withholding of love is the negation of the spirit of Christ [God]…”
