MIDWEEK MESSAGE – October 16, 2024
Autumn in New England! It is quite an experience! Yesterday I drove up to Cape Cod and all along the journey the colors of the trees took my breath away.
Not only is the scenery beautiful, but the air is crisp and clear, and enough chill in the air that I can take out the sweaters and jackets that have long been forgotten, and it feels like I have a new wardrobe!
I did not envision winding up in Connecticut. Fortunately for me, my HP knows better than I what is for my highest good. So often when I do not get what I want, I discover that what I needed (and got) was much better than what I imagined.
The Buddha said that the cause of our suffering is attachment to our desires because they are often beyond our reach. Finding the blessings in what we are given rather than looking at what we want and do not get, is a quick way to a life of peace, joy, happiness, and contentment.
Let’s do a little experiment this week. Each day of the week try seeing the good in life and go one week without criticism, complaining, judging, or envying others for what they have and we don’t.
You may find that you are happier and more grateful this week than what may be the norm.
Quote of the Week
“Any fool can criticize, condemn, and complain – and most fools do.”
