MIDWEEK MESSAGE – July 29, 2020

Letting Go – it’s such an easy thing to say – just let it go – but it is not so easy to do. When we use the term letting go, we are talking about the ability to release that which no longer serves us or is no longer in accord with God’s will for us is.

Why do we have such a hard time with it? It is like the story of the man visiting the Grand Canyon and he slips over the railing and grabs onto a tree branch. He cries out, “God help me” and he hears a big booming voice say to him, “let go”. Upon hearing that, he cries out again, “Is there anyone else out there?”

Like the man in the story, we are afraid that God’s will for us is not something we want. So we hold onto the things we have because they are known and the unknown is more frightening than the current pain.

What are you holding onto? Is it an old idea about yourself? A relationship? A job? Our home? The list goes on and on. Maybe it’s time to start letting things go?

Try this. Find one thing you are having trouble releasing. Then meditate on it and ask yourself, what is the fear that is behind the hesitation? Then ask yourself, what is the worst thing that can happen if what you feared came to pass? See yourself getting through it and on the other side, is an amazing gift beyond anything you could imagine.

Visualize this and give thanks for it. Gratitude makes the fear of letting go easier, it allows you to see that we are all surrounded by a Force, a Power that has us enfolded in Its Love and Care. You will see that letting go is necessary if we are to live a happy and fulfilling life.

Quote of the Week

“Some people believe holding on and hanging in there are signs of great strength. However, there are times when it takes much more strength to know when to let go and then do it.”
