MIDWEEK MESSAGE – January 29, 2020

January 31st (the date Mahatma Ganda was killed) is the beginning of the Season of Non-Violence and it ends on April 4th (the date of Rev Martin Luther King, Jr. was also assassinated). These dates commemorate the lives of these two Peaceful Warriors who showed us there is another way to fight injustice and to be free and true to oneself.

Nonviolence is a practice and a principle. The principle is the active use of non-coercive and non-aggressive means to attain a more peaceful world. It is a practice because unless we practice non-violence in our lives, we will never have a world of peace. How do we do that – by being an example to those around us that it is possible to behave peacefully in the midst of conflict around us.

Peace always begins with us. If we find ourselves feeling anything but peaceful, we can take a moment to breathe, settle ourselves, take a walk, and say a prayer of peace i.e. – “Let there be peace and let it begin with me.”

Peace be with you.

Quote of the Week

“Nonviolence means avoiding not only external physical violence but also internal violence of spirit. You not only refuse to shoot a man, but you refuse to hate him.”
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
