MIDWEEK MESSAGE – January 25, 2023

Last Sunday was Unity of Orange County’s Celebration of 2023 Party, but in truth, it was just an opportunity to celebrate Most people do not celebrate enough. This time of the year, some people suffer from the letdown of all the festivities of the holiday season being over. In Truth, we don’t need a reason to celebrate, we just need to do it as often as possible.

When I lived in Miami, one of my favorite things to do was to go to Key West. It is the furthest southernmost point in the US and at the end of it is a pier. Every day of the year, as the sun began to set, the pier and area became a gathering place for sometimes hundreds of people with one goal – celebrating the sunset. As the sun sets over the horizon, everyone applauds and continues celebrating another beautiful sunset and another day.

Imagine life if, in all ways, both little and big, stupid and endearing, we celebrate just about everything.

Life isn’t always smooth sailing. Life has its ups and downs, highs and lows, times of great joy, and times of great sorrow. Life is like a roller coaster, scary, thrilling, and filled with surprises. We may think we want something more predictable, like a merry-go-round, that just goes round and round, but we would probably find such predictability boring.

Like an amusement park, it is the ups and downs that make life enjoyable. A life that goes round and round, going nowhere, getting nowhere, robs us of the joys that life can offer.
