MIDWEEK MESSAGE – January 19, 2022

Many years ago my life was a mess. I thought I was a victim and blamed everyone and everything for my misery. Then I met my first spiritual mentor who told me that the problem was not “them” or anything “out there,” but me – my thinking, my words, and my actions. She told me that If I wanted to change my life I had to change my thinking.

At first, I thought she was crazy. I told her that if I could change my thoughts and my life I would have done so already. I exclaimed that it was impossible to change my thinking as I had been thinking this way all my life.

She then said something that seemed so simple that it sounded ridiculous. She told me to just choose differently. Choose to think differently, to make different types of choices, to take different kinds of actions. I would like to say I did as she suggested immediately but of course, it took some time.

Changing our thoughts and thereby our lives is not easy and it takes time and practice but it can be done. Our thinking determines how we speak and behave in the world and that all translates into the quality of life we have.

Does that mean that once we change our thinking we will have no challenges in life? NO! Life happens. But what it does mean is that we will find it possible to walk through those life situations with dignity and grace that would not be possible without a positive outlook on life in all its ups and downs.

It is time we stop blaming “them” or “it” and stop looking out there and go within, not in judgment, but to see where our thoughts are, and then to make the conscious decision to think differently.

Quote of the Week
