MIDWEEK MESSAGE – February 5, 2025
Have you ever noticed how some challenges arise in your life from time to time? When they do, you might say and believe it’s all “their” fault.
You might observe this in relationships. The issue remains unchanged, regardless of who the person is. For example, everyone you date tends to act in a similar way. It may be a different face, but the problems remain consistent.
The laws of physics and metaphysics explain this phenomenon, often summarized as: what you resist persists. Why? Because resistance amplifies the energies it tries to oppose, granting it more power and strength to counteract. In other words, what you try to eliminate from your life becomes more intense when you resist it.
That’s why we can all relate to the sensation of being constantly haunted by the same problems. Ignoring them doesn’t help, and neither does avoiding or fleeing from them. It might seem we can eliminate something undesirable by merely pushing it away. However, most of the time, the harder we attempt to push it away, the more the issue pushes back against us.
It also prevents us from learning more about what we resist. To fully understand something, we need to be open enough to receive it and its energy; otherwise, we remain unaware of the lessons.
There’s a tale about a Tibetan monk who retreats to a cave to meditate, only to be tormented by demons. No matter what he tries—chasing, fighting, or hiding to escape the demons—he cannot succeed. The only thing that ultimately works is surrender. He lets them have their way with him, and they disappear only then.
This can be practically applied in our lives. The monk’s story shows us that what troubles us on the inside manifests in our surroundings through people, events, and issues that seem beyond our control. If we repeatedly face the same issues, we must shift our focus from blaming external factors to reflecting on what is happening within us.
This can be daunting work but very rewarding. The more we are willing to confront our fears and surrender, the bolder we will become and the less our inner demons will haunt us.
Quote of the Week
“Letting go of inner resistance, you often find circumstances change for the better.”
