MIDWEEK MESSAGE – February 26, 2020

Today begins Lent for people who are Christians. Lent is the forty-day time leading up to the Easter weekend. The word Lent comes from the Anglo Saxon word, Lencten, which means lengthening (spring) – because it was the time of year when the days started to become longer.

It is a time, not just leading up to Easter, but spring itself. The number 40 represents completion, so it is a perfect time for us to work on our own spiritual connection and expanding our spiritual life.

Several ways we can do that is: through meditation, gratitude lists, self-reflection and loving service to others. Try meditating or meditating a little longer. Each morning or evening write five things you are grateful for and make at least two of those things not about you.

At night, take a personal inventory of how your day was, how you were, and what, if any, were ways you could have done better, and if you owe amends or apology to anyone. Last, but certainly not least, how were you of service to at least one person that day – it doesn’t have to be a big thing, often people remember the little things the most.

Keep a journal during the forty days (beginning tomorrow). At the end of the 40 days, April 8th, see how you feel and if it hasn’t awakened The Spirit within, your connection with God, and with people as well.

Send me an email after the 40 days and let me know how it went!

Quote of the Week

“Lent is a season of spiritual growth, a time for progressive unfoldment.”
Charles Fillmore
