MIDWEEK MESSAGE – April 30, 2025
On Sunday, I attended the Church of the Ocean. It is one of my favorite places to experience God’s presence, especially on days when the wind is strong and the waves crash against the shore, making a sound that, to me, is the sound of angels.
Before I believed in God, a Higher Power, or any concept of a Supreme Being, I felt something profound at the ocean. There, gazing at its vastness, seemingly endless expanse, and the power of the waves as they crashed, I marveled at the ocean, experiencing a peace and calm that I could not understand. I watched the waves in awe of their magnificence and the relentless force that drove them against the shore.
Years later, I am still in awe of the ocean. However, I now view it with a different spiritual understanding. Within the sea are countless drops of water, each unique yet containing the same essence as the Ocean. No matter how small, every part of the ocean has the same qualities as the ocean itself.
The same can be said about us and God. All the qualities of God are within us. The Bible says that we were created in the image and likeness of God. That means if God is Love, Strength, Wisdom, Compassion, Imagination, Order, and Life Itself, then all those qualities reside within us.
That does not mean we are God, but it does imply that everything that is God resides within us, and the extent of this varies based on our conscious connection with God at any given moment. An individual water molecule in the ocean does not possess the power of the ocean, yet it shares the same composition. It cannot be anything other than what it is: part of the whole ocean.
We also cannot be anything other than part of God. God is within us and as us. We may not always be aware of this or may forget at times. Just as this is true for us, it is true for everyone else, whether they are aware of it or not. The drop of water does not realize it is part of something bigger, but that does not diminish the fact that it is the Truth.
When encountering difficulties with another person, remember that they are as much a part of God as you are. We all live, breathe, and have our being in God, whether we realize it or not.
Quote of the Week
“In one drop of water are found all the secrets of all the oceans.”
